In our 2023-2024 season, JCFW will donate to She Is…Incorporated, Hunger Free Unity in the Community, and the National Medical Fellowship

She is… Incorporated is a non-profit girls mentoring organization that was founded in 2016 by four residents of Jersey City – Qaadia Roberts, Shakimiah Garretson, Latoya Roberts, and Tamara Wells. These four visionary women recognized the need for a platform that would empower and uplift young girls in their community, and thus, She is… Incorporated was born.

The organization’s mission is to provide mentorship, education, and resources to young girls and their families in underserved communities. She is… Incorporated believes in the motto “Total Girl in Mind,” which means that they strive to provide holistic support to their mentees, focusing not only on academic and career development but also on mental health, self-esteem & personal development and the importance of community service.
Since its inception, She is… Incorporated has made a significant impact on the lives of countless young girls in Jersey City and beyond. The organization has organized various events, workshops, and seminars that cover a wide range of topics, including leadership development, mental health seminars and maintaining healthy relationships.
Qaadia Roberts, Shakimiah Garretson, Latoya Roberts, and Tamara Wells are all passionate about empowering young girls and providing them with the tools they need to succeed. Their dedication and commitment to the cause have been an inspiration to many, and they will continue to work tirelessly to make a positive impact in their community.

Six years ago, we started distributing food in a park in Bayonne. As time went on and lines grew larger, we realized that there were countless families that had food insecurities which led to creating our 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Hunger Free Unity in the Community (“UIC”), which is 100% volunteer based.

Since then, because of the pandemic and the increasing need in surrounding communities, we have grown to serve the entire county. We are the only traveling food pantry in Hudson County. We still distribute in local parks and other outside locations weekly, twelve months per year, no matter the weather because food insecurity knows no season. The need is dramatically growing because of inflation.

In 2021, we distributed 1,580,800 pounds of fresh fruits, vegetables, meal kits and food items. The beneficiaries were the many families we serve each week, 4 senior centers, 13 county churches of various denominations, 3 homeless shelters and soup kitchens, and 4 community fridges. This was all possible by our army of volunteers who did it all from their hearts.

Meantime, our belief is that no one should go to bed hungry or worry about their next meal, especially in America. Our mission is to distribute free food to anyone, and we will do so as long as food insecurities exists.

National Medical Fellowships (NMF) is advancing health equity — where everyone has a fair and just opportunity to attain their highest level of health regardless of race, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, geography — with an intentional and innovative approach. For the past 75 years, NMF worked to break down barriers for intentionally marginalized students of color in the medical, behavioral health, and clinical research fields—and we’re not slowing down.

By building pathways for entry to health profession education for Black, Latin, Indigenous, Asian, first-generation, and other students of color, we are creating a health care system that is inclusive and invites more traditionally underserved patients to access quality health care. By doing this, we can help stop preventable deaths and ensure equitable and exceptional care not only for communities of color, but also improve health outcomes for all.
